Whip up a meal or a healthy snack with your children and become an active part of their learning. When the end of the school year approaches I always have a little anxiety about the summer. I love for the kids to enjoy their summer break but I’m one of those parents that feels like education doesn’t stop just because school does. Not that they have to be in school year round but they need to have some sort of academic enrichment. One thing I like to do to keep the kids learning and spend time with them is cooking with them.
My kitchen is a classroom and they don’t even know it.
Well, they might know now, but they’ve learned so much, and have eaten so good they probably don’t care. I started cooking with them when they were two, and three. I found cooking to be a fun way to prepare them for school. It was a great opportunity for me to teach colors, basic counting skills, reading, social skills and even the alphabet to them through food.
If you are looking for an innovative way to promote school readiness in your home, join me this month for our “Exploring through Food Series.” I will share recipes, educational activities, fun facts, tips and resources for children’s cooking supplies to help you get your early learner ready for school. The whole idea is to introduce ideas and skills they will learn in school and also reinforce what they are already learning in their respective school environments (if they are already in school). All in a way that allows them to spend time with their families, and teaches them a new skill…cooking. It will be a simple and deliciously good time! I hope you will join me! Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest updates and exclusive materials. If you know someone with a preschooler or a young elementary school student share this series with them! We begin Monday, May 12th!
